Yes some photo can even " huge size " I also had to resize many photos. Regarding HDR, yes, you are right, you'd have a monitor that can support so high resolution imagines, though, I feel like the photographer used this option while he was taking or editing that imagine.

HDR photos might " emphasize " a lot people's lines , for example : pimples, dark circles, hairs as well as a pedicure not carried out too well etc etc
be careful with depth of field as weel, since some background might appear not too uniform and with stains.
Try to work on wallpaper which background is for example a wall or a blue sky, a deep sea is good as well.

No HDR, normal computer display's do not suport it. And this a compressed version, original is too big for the site.

The original had a true low resolution so I edited it by HDR and the final result was not so bad, i guess :)
